Over 200 boys and girls were detained in Maharashtra's Raigad district after police raided a rave party at a resort here late Sunday, an official said.
"We have detained over 200 boys and girls in the operation," said inspector S. Patil, head of Khalapur police station.
Over 300 youngsters, including 60 girls, were detained after the police busted a rave party near the Mumbai-Pune highway in Raigad late on Sunday night. Most of them were Mumbai students between the age group of 20-30 years.
Police have registered a case against six people under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. "Five people have been arrested while one is absconding," said Namrata Patil, Deputy SP, Raigad region.
The police are awaiting results of the drugs used in the party, she said.
Anti-Narcotics cell officer Anil Jadhav is among those arrested. The police have also seized various party drugs like cocaine, hashish, marijuana and ecstasy.
Police believe he acted as a facilitator, but Jadhav in his defence says he was present at the party because he knew of the impending raid and wanted to conduct it himself. The police are questioning him.
Raigad police have also arrested one organiser while another is still missing.
Invitations for the party were sent through social networking website Facebook and it was organised by a company called Beyond Logic.
The rave party was organised at a resort in Karjat near Mumbai.
Incidentally, the day this party was busted, June 26, is also the International Day against Drug Abuse.
The raid was still on at 11 p.m. and police were trying to ascertain the type, quantity of drugs and liquor served in the party.
The police action came on a day which is observed as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
