Popularly known as Picasso of India, Hussain saab has carved a niche for himself across the world with his paintings. Off late the artist was living in Qatar due to the threats he received over some of his controversial works.

Hussain saab has directed two Hindi films, Gajagamini with Madhuri Dixit and Meenakshi: A tale of three cities with Tabu.
M.F. Hussain started out as a poster artist for Bollywood. His paintings sold for millions of dollars later on in his life. The most popular of his paintings in his early career were paintings of horses. One of the most controversial of his paintings, titled “Rape of India” was the one that brought him the exile – many Indians considered the painting a terrible denigration. “Bharat Mata”(Mother India) is a Goddess for Indians, a sacred symbol. Its figurative representation was considered blasphemy.
MF Hussain who is called as Picasso of India has passed away today in London, Royal Brompton hospital.His present age is 95.He has been taking treatment in London for fluids in Lungs.

Hussain is the citizen of Qatar as he was self expelled from india.The paintings in question were created in 1970, but did not become an issue until 1996, when they were printed in Vichar Mimansa, Hindi monthly magazine.

In response, eight criminal complaints were filed against Husain. In 2004, Delhi High Court rejected these complaints of “promoting enmity between different groups of … by painting Hindu goddesses — Durga and sarswati, who later was compromised by Hindus”.

1998 Was by some Hindu groups such as Bajrang Dal Husain’s house attacked and devastated its works of art.

The Hindu gods and Goddesses in February 2006, Husain, because of his nude portraits of people with feelings of hurt was accused of.

A number of cases were brought against him and a court case related to the alleged obscene depiction of Hindu goddesses in his paintings resulted in the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against Husain after he failed to respond to the request.

The initial success of Husain as an artist was in the 1940s.

In 1947, he joined the progressive Artists ‘ group , founded by Francis Newton Souza. This was a group of young artists who wanted to break with the nationalist traditions established by the Bengal School of art and to encourage an Indian avant-garde, engaged at an international level.

In 1952, his first solo exhibition took place in Zurich and in the next few years, his work was widely seen in Europe and the United States.
In 1955, he received the prestigious Padma Shree Prize by the Indian Government.
Despite controversy, MF’s contribution to the world of the arts cannot be disregarded. He managed to distance himself from traditional painting styles, and also became a symbol of Indian talent abroad. The news of his death was received with sorrow by his contemporary artists, and even by some of those who condemned his art. Perhaps, all Indians should find in their hearts the power to forgive him, and give him due respect now, when he has left this world. In the end, we all answer to God, and God alone.
